A Day with the El Paso Police Department

The El Paso Police Department is hosting a one-day event to introduce the various units of the El Paso Police Department.  Static displays and active demonstrations from Community Services, Traffic and Motors, SWAT, Crisis Management Team, Bomb Squad, K-9, COMSAR, Command Post, and Police Explorers to be held throughout the day.

Texas City Seeking Grant To Equip Officers With Body Cams
08/07/18 - El Paso Municipal Police Officers' Association
A $110,000 grant from Andeavor Corporation, THE Cardwell Foundation and the El Paso Community Foundation would allow the City of El Paso to buy body cameras for the El Paso Police Department. The grant will fund body cameras for the EPPD Crisis Intervention Team Unit and the DWI unit, according to a news release by the grant donors.

Harrisburg, Pa. (Aug. 2, 2018)  The Fraternal Order of Police Pennsylvania State Lodge re-elected Les Neri to serve his fifth term as president of the organization. The entire Neri team won the election in early August and will serve two-year terms in office. The election concluded the PA FOP 45th Biennial Conference at the Hilton Harrisburg.

Detective Schneider served the El Paso community as a peace officer for 21+ years.  She was commissioned by the El Paso Police Department on March 21, 1975 and retired on November 29, 1996.

The police officer accused in the drowning of his 11-month-old son was found not guilty of injury to a child. On Thursday, the judge dropped two of the three charges he faces. Judge Susan Larson acquitted Raymond Licon Jr. on charges of abandoning and endangering a child and criminal negligent homicide.

Criminal Trespass Viral Video Incident Being Investigated

On Thursday, July 5th, officers responded to the area of 6700 block of Sambrano on a criminal trespass call.  A series of events unfolded while the officers were handling the call and culminated with the situation that was captured on video and posted on social media sites. The Department’s Internal Affairs Unit is conducting an investigation of the incident.

Officer Huot Arbitration Decision

On June 22, 2018, an arbitrator ordered Officer Adam Huot to be re-instated as a Duluth Police Officer.  Officer Huot’s employment had been terminated by the Department due to actions he took on May 20, 2017.  The Duluth Police Union subsequently grieved his termination and moved the matter to binding arbitration.

While this decision is one we fervently oppose, the impact on the FOP in Colorado is anticipated to be minimal. In Colorado there is no state-wide law granting public sector employees collective bargaining rights. Those rights are conferred locally. The FOP is the bargaining agent for the majority of police employees in Colorado that do have bargaining rights given by their city or county.

Charge dropped against former Fort Bliss soldier accused in El Paso constable's death

A judge approved an amended dismissal motion Monday to drop an aggravated assault charge against a man accused of causing the death of a constable. The decision came after defense lawyers claimed the original motion was unfair and vindictive. The original dismissal motion had an indictment for capital murder attached.

Ex-EPPD Officer Arrested

An ex-El Paso Police officer was arrested by the Department’s Special Investigations unit and has been charged with Sexual Assault.  The offender, William Alexander met the victim after he responded and handled a police call involving the victim.  Later, while off-duty the offender met with the victim and he sexually assaulted her.
